Lodge Mfg Cast Iron is TRAEF
Lodge Mfg uses a mixture of oils to season their cast iron cookware, including pig fat. It requires libun gamur (get it thoroughly RED HOT) to completely remove all traces of the factory seasoning. Then you can re-season it with kosher oils or fats. Obviously, the same is true for any cast iron cookware you pick up for pennies at garage sales or flea markets. I prefer extra virgin olive oil for pareve and beef fat for fleischig. You should NEVER use milchig in cast iron, as it ruins the seasoning. If the label doesn't specifically SAY it's kosher, assume it's not.
