Seasons and food are very much connected.

Where I live, it’s starting to feel like fall. The mornings and nights are getting chilly and I made my first cup of hot tea.

We eat differently, not only dress differently, in cold weather. There is something about warm bowls of soup, stews, and cups of tea that are so satisfying, especially in the fall.

This menu is a total reflection of that. In particular, the crockpot onion flanken soup sounds like the perfect soup/stew to enjoy either Friday night or Shabbat day. These garlic confit mashed potatoes are also calling my name. The combination of aromatic garlic confit and creamy mashed potatoes sounds divine, and I think I am going to add it to my Shabbat menu this week.

Let me know if you plan on trying out any of these recipes!

Happy cooking!

Onion Pepper Relish by Faigy Grossman

Whether you use this outstanding relish as a side dish, salad, or accompaniment to fish, chicken, or meat, it will definitely add flavor and depth to your seudah!

Crockpot Onion and Flanken Soup by Naomi Nachman

Who doesn’t love a big bowl of onion soup? This recipe allows you to skip the sautéing, as your crockpot does all the work for you.

Quinoa-Stuffed Chicken by Michal Frischman

This chicken is a contrast to the heavy, sugary sauces that so many chicken recipes have, and it’s a real winner! It’s light and lemony, and the fresh parsley throughout adds an extra fresh element.

Creamy Garlic-Confit Mashed Potatoes by Bassie Parnes

This is the perfect recipe for parve mashed potatoes. They are creamy, smooth and filled with delicious flavor!

Oatmeal Apple Cherry Kugel from the Dining In Cookbook

This is a great side dish for Friday night. It can be prepared on Thursday, refrigerated overnight, and baked fresh Friday afternoon. Tastes great hot, warm, or cold.

Beet Salad with Candied Nuts by Naomi Nachman

Beets and tomatoes are a delicious pairing, and the sugared nuts really complete the dish by bringing out their sweetness.

Hot Chocolate Chip Pie with Ice Cream and Fudge from the Dining In Cookbook

Looking to spruce up your typical chocolate chip cookies? This pie is chewy and warm, and the drizzle of hot fudge brings an extra chocolatey element, making this dessert out of this world!
