The best 4 quart crockpot Cholent recipe.
1/4 C Oil
1 Large Onion diced
3 Cloves Garlic crushed
1/2 lb Chuck Spare Ribs
1/2 lb Flanken
4 Potatoes
1 C Cholent Bean Mix
1 1/2 C Barley
1 T Beef Consommé
1/2 T Garlic Powder
1/2 T Onion Powder
1/2 T Montreal Steak Seasoning
Salt
Black Pepper
2 T Paprika
1 T BBQ Sauce
Turn the crockpot onto high.
Heat the oil in a pan. Add the onions and sauté until they are translucent. Add the garlic and sauté for another minute. Move the onions and garlic to the crockpot leaving the oil in the pan. Brown the meat and bones in the pan. Move the meat, bones and oil to the crockpot.
Cube the potatoes and place them on top of the meat.
Place the beans in a pot of water. Boil the beans until water is reduced. Drain the water and rinse the beans. Repeat this until the drained water is clear. Add the beans to the crockpot.
Rinse the barley in water until the water remains clear around the barley. Add the barley to the crockpot.
Sprinkle the consommé and seasoning over the barley. Drizzle in the barbecue sauce.
Fill the crockpot with water about 1 inch over the barley.
Cook on high for an hour, then lower to low. Cook overnight.
