Pancake art has taken the world by storm! There are some incredibly intricate designs out there that will amaze you, but anyone can have fun with a few basic supplies. I had so much fun testing out different shapes, I know the kids (and you) will too!

For those of you who plan on staying home for winter break, be sure to give this a try! It’s the perfect staycation treat.

Pancake Art

Supplies:

Griddle (recommended for ease, but a regular pan works too)
Squeeze bottles
Pancake mix, plus ingredients needed for the mix
Gel food coloring

Directions:

1. Make the pancake mix in a large bowl according to the package directions. Divide the batter up into separate bowls for different colors. I used about 1 cup of batter per color.

2. Color the pancake batter with one to two drops of gel food coloring. Mix well. Transfer the mix to a squeeze bottle using a funnel or something similar.

3. Once all the colors are ready, heat the griddle to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Have fun creating shapes! Start by making the outline of your shape so that it can set for a moment before filling in the middle. Try not to make the shapes too big, so that they aren’t too difficult to flip.) When the pancake starts to form little bubbles all over, it’s ready to flip. Using a spatula, gently flip the shape. Cook for an additional one to two minutes before transferring to a plate.

4. Enjoy with classic pancake accompaniments like syrup and berries!

It took me at least three or four tries for some shapes to come out the way I wanted them to, so don’t give up so easily!
