Fruit Rocks: The Cutest Summer Craft You Can Make with Your Kids

Looking for a fun, colorful, and budget-friendly summer activity? Painting fruit rocks is a creative way to mix nature, art, and imagination!

Supplies Needed:

- Smooth rocks (washed & dried)

- Acrylic paint markers or paint

- Clear acrylic sealer spray (optional for durability)

Directions:

Step 1:  Start by picking the perfect rock for your fruity masterpiece. You can make it a fun outdoor adventure by collecting rocks from nature—just look for smooth, flat ones. Or, if you prefer convenience, you can purchase rocks in bulk from stores like Lowe’s, Home Depot, or craft stores.

Tip: Lighter-colored rocks are easier to paint on and will help your colors show up more vibrantly.

Step 2: Wash rocks with soap and water. Let dry.

Step 3: Take a good look at your rocks—kind of like how you'd look at clouds. Let your imagination lead the way! Does that oval one remind you of a watermelon slice? Maybe the teardrop-shaped rock looks like a strawberry, or that round one could easily become a juicy orange.

Let the natural shapes of the rocks inspire the fruit (or food) they’re meant to be!

Step 4: Use your paint markers or paint to color your base coat.

- Red for strawberries or watermelon

- Green for avocado or peas

- orange for oranges, etc.

Step 5: Once your base coat is dry, use a fine-tip marker to add the finishing touches.

- Little black seeds for watermelon or strawberries

- White sections for citrus slices

- Criss-cross lines for pineapples

- Even silly faces if you're feeling playful!

Step 6: If your rocks will live outdoors or you want to keep them looking fresh, cover them with weatherproof Mod Podge or spray a coat of clear acrylic sealer over the top. Let dry completely.

(Optional: For brighter, more vibrant colors, start with a layer of white acrylic paint as a base before adding your main color.
