Shailah of the Week by Rabbi Zvi Nussbaum
Rabbinic Coordinator, Kosher Hotline Administrator for the Orthodox Union
Everyone loves ices on a hot summer day! But what if we just grabbed a hot dog and need something refreshing and…parve?
Edy's parent brand line of refreshing frozen snacks under the brand Outshine is a refreshing snack made with real ingredients like fruit and fruit juice. Great, but can it be eaten after the hot dog? Or, for that matter, after a Shabbos meal?

The Edy's Outshine Creamy Coconut Fruit Bar and their Fruit and Cream bars are dairy, but there are also many parve flavors:
- Acai Blueberry
- Grape
- Lemon
- Lime
- Mango
- Pineapple
- Pomegranate
- Strawberry; and
- Tangerine
As well as multi-packs featuring:
- Coconut, Pineapple, and Orange
- Grape, Cherry, and Tangerine
- Lime, Strawberry, and Wildberry
- No Sugar Added Black Cherry, Strawberry-Kiwi, and Mixed Berry; and
- No Sugar Added Strawberry, Tangerine, and Raspberry
So go ahead and enjoy Outshine Ices after the hot dog, but watch out for the dairy flavors. If uncertain about a certification status please call the OU Kosher office at 212-613-8241 or email kosherq@ou.org.
