1. Funny Face Gelt

Give your gelt a fun facelift with this Chanukah activity! Fun sprinkles, edible eyes, and mustaches are sure to bring a smile to your gelt and your children too!

You will need:

  • Melted chocolate (optional)

Directions:

There are a number of methods you can use to stick your decorations to the gelt.

1. Use a toothpick dipped into melted chocolate.

2. Place gelt on baking sheet and arrange your decorations on the gelt to create the faces. Place baking sheet in a hot (dairy) oven, careful not to jostle the decorations as you do so. Leave it in the oven for about one minute or until the gelt begins to melt and the decorations stick to the chocolate.

3. Arrange gelt on a baking pan. Place the baking pan in a hot (dairy) oven for about one minute or until the chocolate begins to melt. Remove and quickly decorate before the gelt harden.

2. Mystery Gelt Tasting Challenge

Can you guess the taste? From sweet to sour to hot, with this fun and exciting “Mystery Gelt Tasting” activity you’ll surely get your “gelt’s” worth!

To stick the toppings onto the gelt, use any of the methods mentioned above (under the Funny Face Gelt directions).

You will need:

  • Tiny chunks of assorted flavored foods – I used orange peel, pomegranate seeds, chopped hot buffalo wing pretzels, halved mini marshmallows, chopped mint candies, halved hot tamale candies, coconut flakes, chopped coffee candy or granules, crumbled halva and crumbled cookies and cream cookies.

Directions:

1. Blindfold the players and let their taste buds guide them to determine the secret taste of the Chanukah gelt.

3. Gelt Wax Seals

With wax seals trending now, I thought, what better way to incorporate a special Chanukah twist than with a special Gelt Wax Seal? These seals will create that perfect finishing touch for a special Chanukah gift, place cards, etc.

You will need:

  • Parchment paper
  • Your gift boxes, seating cards, envelopes, etc. (optional)
  • Double sided tape or glue

Directions:

1. Squeeze a puddle of wax on prepared piece of parchment paper. (Alternately you can do this directly on the destination box, card, envelope, etc.)

2. Press the gelt into the wax. Allow to dry.

3. If you are preparing the seals on parchment paper, glue or tape the seals down to your project once they’re dry.

4. Gelt Milkshakes

Deposit a few gelt coins into your favorite milkshake and take it up to a whole new, yum level!

You will need:

  • Your favorite milkshake recipe

Directions:

1. Prepare your favorite milkshake and set aside.

2. Drizzle chocolate syrup into a clear glass. Pour the milkshake in and top with your favorite toppings. I used roasted marshmallows, whipped cream, cookies, more chocolate syrup and chocolate gelt, of course.
