Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).

  2. In a bowl, combine cream cheese, sour cream, ricotta cheese, salt, and pepper, mixing until smooth and well blended.

  3. Spread some of the softened butter on the bottom of a 9×13-inch (23×33-centimeter) baking dish. Pour in about a half cup to three-fourths cup marinara sauce and spread it to cover the bottom of the pan evenly. Place four raw lasagna noodles over the sauce. Lightly smear the noodles with softened butter, then spread one and a half cups of the cheese mixture over the top. Add a layer of American cheese slices, followed by another half cup to three-fourths cup marinara sauce.

  4. Repeat the layering process, making sure to lightly spread butter over each layer of noodles before adding the cheese mixture. Continue layering until all ingredients are used. For the final top layer, use only butter, marinara sauce, and American cheese. If desired, you can also sprinkle a layer of shredded cheddar or mozzarella cheese on top.

  5. Cover the pan with foil that has been lightly sprayed with oil, or use a pan cover. Place in the oven and bake for two hours. For the last 10 minutes of baking, uncover the pan to allow the top of the lasagna to become slightly golden.

  6. Let sit for a few minutes before serving for easier slicing.
