You’ve heard of surprise muffins, now check out these adorable surprise cookies with sprinkles hidden inside like Maccabees hiding in a cave! Submitted by Meira Levitt and Miriam Estreicher
4 and 1/4 cups flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup butter
1 and 1/2 cups sugar
2 large eggs
1 and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 teaspoon almond extract
1 cup vanilla frosting
blue food coloring
Mix all dry ingredients. Add wet ingredients.
Roll out dough. Cut out dreidels with cookie cutter. Cut out squares from center of 1/3 of cookies.
Place in refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes. Cool cookies.
Decorate 1/3 of cookies with frosting.
Put cookies with square cut outs upside down on baking sheet. Put frosting around square opening.
Press a cookie frosting-side down onto plain dreidel cookie. Fill square opening with candy. Pipe frosting around square opening.
Top with decorated dreidel cookie.
