Gutfreund means “good friend,” so invite one over and share these luxurious treats with some coffee or tea!
1 and 1/2 sticks margarine
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
3 egg yolks
1 teaspoon Gefen Vanilla Extract
2 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon Gefen Baking Soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup Glicks Chocolate Chips
1 cup shredded coconut
3/4 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup brown sugar
3 egg whites
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Cream margarine and sugars. Add yolks and vanilla. Add dry ingredients on slow speed and mix well.
Pat into two greased 8×8-inch pans. Sprinkle filling ingredients on top of dough.
In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form; add brown sugar slowly until whites are stiff and glossy.
Spread on top of filling in both pans.
Bake at 350°F for 40 minutes.
When cool, cut into squares.

i used oil instead of margarine and turned out fantastic -a favorite for us
