Kitchen-Ade

You know those jokes that don’t stop but should stop? We put Marco’s infamous Gatorade fixation into that category. For years, in the middle of the Montréal summer—which can be sweltering, and very humid—Marco would typically go on a run to buy Gatorade for the kitchen team. Marco then began campaigning for sponsorship with the manufacturers of Gatorade, making Mon Lapin logos that looked like Gatorade logos, sending the company care packages of merch while asking for lifetime supplies, going on and on way too much on social media about Gatorade, to the point where guests and friends will still show up with a crate of the stuff for our kitchen at least once a month.

But we now declare that our Gatorade era has ended. While we waited for the Gatorade overlords to get back to us, we came up with something even better than Gatorade which we call Kitchen-Ade—our solution to shop-bought, artificially flavoured electrolyte drinks (made by companies that won’t sponsor us). We use whatever we have around in the kitchen in the summer, which often means things like cantaloupe pulp, juiced berries and celery leaves. Some of our Kitchen-Ade flavours have included rhubarb/yogurt whey/honey, melon/lime/lemon, and peach/tomato water. Add a bit of sugar, then some salt and sparkling water, and you’ll never look at a plastic bottle of the electric-blue stuff the same way again.
