I just want to point out specific myths and the real science behind it.

  • putting salt into the (hot/cold) water to help the egg white separate from the egg shell is a myth and completely not true. However, what does help the egg white separate from the egg shell is to put your eggs in boiling hot water. (after shocking the eggs in ice cold water to stop the cooking process) once done – pealing the egg under running cold water while they are still a little bit hot can reduce the amount of egg white sticking to the shell. The reason naomi and dinis eggs pealed nicely is because of the hot water.

Just to clarify – putting salt in water ( when making pasta, eggs ect. ) doesn’t make the water boil faster. WHAT IT DOES DO is once the water reaches boiling point (212 Fahrenheit) instead of the temperature being 212 it is significantly higher. The reason we put salt in the water for pasta is – dry pasta absorbs water while its cooking so if it absorbs salted water it will increase the flavor of the pasta.

Happy cooking!!

How much fun is this episode? I honestly thought it would be about “fried rice” but was happy to see the finished product. Great tips in there for salting the water to boil eggs. I’ve heard vinegar in the water works too if you want to make boiled eggs easier to peel.
