Shavuot is a holiday that is known for cheesecake. Well it’s really known for the Jewish nation getting the Torah, but you know what I mean. So let’s talk cheesecake!

There are many types of cheesecakes out there. Some have a farmer cheese base, while others use cream cheese. For the crust you can go with Oreo or graham cracker. And what about the flavoring, should I choose caramel or coffee? Okay, now I’m getting hungry. But all that aside, why doesn’t anyone talk about the decoration on the cake? How to top it, and how to make it a show stopper. That’s because it intimidates people- it looks hard. But I’m here to tell you how simple it really is, and how much of a difference it really does make.

Below I’ve created three cheesecake designs that will elevate not only your cake, but your Shavuot too.

But first…

What type of cake can I use?

This is the most common question. But the answer is whatever you prefer. Whether it’s your famous homemade cheesecake, or one from your local bakery- both are perfectly fine! Try to go for a plain/vanilla flavored cheesecake so the flavor in the topping really shines. I used a plain New York-style cake from a bake shop in New Jersey where I live. I ordered them frozen, topped them, and stuck them back in the freezer to serve on Shavuot morning.

Do I need any fancy equipment?

The simple answer is no. The most you would need is a piping bag, but if you don’t have one you can always use a can of whipped cream that has a star tip. As far as melted chocolate goes, I always use a zip-top bag and cut a little hole at the tip. So as you can see, no fancy or expensive equipment is necessary here.

Pareve cheesecake toppings

I made sure to keep all the topping ideas Pareve, even though most cheesecakes are dairy, to keep an option open for everyone. So don’t worry, if you’re lactose intolerant, I got you.

On to the decorating!

1. Lemon Mint Cheesecake

I love lemon anything! This cheesecake can be made with mint leaves, and even blueberry pie filling to make it a blueberry cheesecake.

You’ll Need:

1 cheesecake

Lemon crème

Whipped cream

Mint leaves

Directions:

Start by spreading the lemon crème on the cheesecake (it’s easier when the cheesecake is frozen). Then place the whipped cream in a piping bag with a star tip, and pipe “stars/swirls” around the edges. Top off with mint leaves and/or any pie filling of your choice in the center.

2. Berry Delicious Cheesecake

This cake may seem overly easy and simple, but the classic flavors just jive together so well- it’s a must. Use an assortment of berries of your choice. You can even use frozen fruit if you prefer. I like to keep the fruit as is, but if you want to mix it with some sugar, you do you.

You’ll Need:

1 cheesecake

2 cups of assorted berries, washed

Whipped cream

Directions:

Start by placing dots of whipped cream in the places you plan on putting the fruit (to act as a glue). I put my fruit on just one half of the cheesecake to give it a modern look. You can however cover the entire top too. Once you pick your design, place the fruit down and you’re done!

3. Cookie Dough Cheesecake

It doesn’t get better than edible cookie dough on cheesecake. I’m a sucker for carbs, so this cake is for sure my favorite. Feel free to use an edible brownie batter if that’s more your taste.

You’ll Need:

1 cheesecake

1 bar of chocolate

1 cup edible cookie dough (recipe below)

Whipped cream

Chocolate ball candies, optional

Directions:

Start by melting the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Pour the melted chocolate into a zip-top bag. Make a little slit on the bottom of the bag and drizzle it over the cake allowing it to drip down the sides. Once that dries, press down the cookie dough all over the center of the cheesecake. Then pipe the whipped cream along the edge. I topped mine off with chocolate ball candies, but you can leave as is.

More topping ideas

Feel free to be as creative as you like! Use my ideas and add your own special touch. There are so many topping options out there. Oreos, Stella Doro cookies, M&M’s, twizzlers, chocolate truffles- the options are endless! Using store-bought caramel, or even pie filling as a simple topping can also elevate your cake, and would be a real game changer.

Make sure to send me your pictures and reach out with any questions, I love to help!

Enjoy!
