Diets These cake pops look impressive yet take minutes to make. They also don’t require any special equipment or molds.
store-bought cake in a flavor of your choice
chocolate spread
chocolate melts in the color of your choice
lollipop sticks or colored paper straws cut to size (you can find these in the supermarket, Dollar Tree, or Walmart)
toppings (optional)
piece of styrofoam (optional)
Crumble the store-bought cake to form crumbs. (To estimate how much cake you need to crumble, one cup of crumbs will yield about four cake pops.)
Add the chocolate spread one tablespoon at a time and mix it with your crumbs. Keep adding chocolate spread until you reach a consistency that allows you to shape balls that keep their shape nicely. The amount of spread you need will depend on the moistness of the cake you are using.
Take a handful of the mixture and, using your hands, form it into a tight ball.
Push a lollipop stick halfway through and place it on a Gefen Parchment-lined cookie sheet. Repeat until you have the number of cake pops necessary.
Place the cookie sheet in the freezer for one hour.
After one hour, remove the cake pops from the freezer. Melt the chocolate melts by microwaving them in 20-second increments, stirring in between.
Dip each cake pop into the chocolate.
Holding the stick horizontally, twirl the pop to allow excess chocolate to drip off neatly, and stick it into your piece of Styrofoam (if you don’t have a Styrofoam piece, place it back on the cookie sheet) and immediately top it with decorative toppings. (Placing the cake pops on the cookie sheets to dry means a bit of the melted chocolate will pool at the bottom of the pop and you won’t get that perfectly round top. It will still look beautiful, but your pops will have a slightly flat top and will need to be displayed ball down on the table.)
Tie a bow or ornament to the sticks and voila! You’ve done it!
