Ingredients

Vanilla Twists

  • 1 tablespoon dry yeast

  • 3/4 cup sugar

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 tablespoon Gefen Vanilla Sugar

  • 1/2 cup oil

  • 1/4 cup orange juice

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 stick margarine

  • 5 cups Beleaves Flour

  • (parve) vanilla cream

Glaze

  • 2 tablespoons hot water

Vanilla Coffee

  • 1 and 1/2 cups hot water

  • 4 scoops (parve) vanilla ice cream

Directions

Prepare the Vanilla Twists

1.

In a mixing bowl, combine the yeast, sugar, and warm water, and let proof for 10 minutes.

2.

Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well until a soft dough is formed. Let it rise for 30 minutes.

3.

Divide the dough into two equal parts. Roll out each into a rectangle shape with the long side facing you.

4.

Spread half of the vanilla cream on the lower half of the dough. Fold the empty half of the dough over the creamed side.

5.

Using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife, cut the dough into one-inch thick strips. Gently twist each strip and place on a lined baking sheet. Repeat with the second part of the dough.

6.

Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20-25 minutes.

Prepare the Glaze

1.

Mix all ingredients and drizzle over cooled twists.

Prepare the Vanilla Coffee

1.

Place the coffee, sugar, and vanilla extract in a hot cup. Add 1/2 cup of hot water and mix.

2.

Divide this into two mugs, add the rest of the ingredients.

3.

Top with two scoops of ice cream. Serve immediately.

It’s a specialty baking item. Baker’s Choice makes one, for example.
