Chanukah

Game’s On! Delicious Flavors for Family Fun with Whisk!

Gitty Nussbaum December 25, 2024

Looking for something fun to do this Chanukah? Set up a Chanukah table for crafts and fun eats with Whisk!

Here’s how to recreate the look!

Fun Table How-To:

■ Use kraft paper as a tablecloth and wrapping paper to wrap all the gifts. You’re best off buying a roll and measuring to size.

■ Fun Chanukah-themed stamps can be bought on Amazon, Etsy, or Zazzle. Let your kids have a good time and stamp the table, pouches of gelt, napkins, gifts, etc. I used a brown ink pad to match the decor, but feel free to use different colors.

■ Cutting boards with a hole on top can be used in place of plates. String a ribbon with the seating card through the hole.

■ Use pretty and kid-friendly disposable glasses to dress up the table.

■ Print these adorable coloring placemats. They’ll make the kids excited as soon as they find their seats.

■ The wooden pencils can be purchased on Amazon as well as the tea light holders for the menorah centerpiece.

■ To play the dreidel game, spin one dreidel and then spin a second dreidel. Find the box on the chart that corresponds to both letters and read aloud what it says. Either you get lucky or have fun doing the consequences. You can also print out an empty board and get creative filling it in with your own ideas!

Recipe for Cream Cheese Rangoons (Wontons)

Chanukah gives us the opportunity to spend time and have fun with our family and friends.

Nothing says party more than finger foods and dipping sauces. Bring out a tray of these while sitting around with your loved ones and enjoy creating those beautiful memories with delicious food, fun and laughter!

Makes 25 Rangoons

Rangoons:

1 container whipped cream cheese

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

2 scallions or chives, chopped, or 1 small jalapeño pepper, seeded and chopped

25 round wonton wrappers

Oil for frying

Dipping Sauce:

1 cup sweet and sour duck sauce

1 and 1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon mustard

Directions:

1. To make the filling, beat the cream cheese, add the Worcestershire sauce and garlic powder and mix until smooth.

2. Mix in the chopped scallions or jalapeño pepper.

3. Fill the wontons with a tablespoon of the cheese filling in the center.

4. Wet the edges of the wonton wrapper to enable it to seal properly.

5. Fold wontons in half and press down on the edges to seal.

6. You can prep these in advance and freeze them raw on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

7. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side until golden.

8. For the dipping sauce, add all ingredients and heat in a saucepan or in the microwave to combine. Serve with the fried rangoons.

Two Alternative Fillings for the Rangoons

– Mix equal parts of prepared pesto and crumbled feta cheese and fill wontons with a tablespoon of the mixture. Fold and fry.

– Make it a pizza-style wonton with a dollop of tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese in the center. Fold and fry. Enjoy these dipped in marinara sauce.

Recipe for Zeppoles

A sweet Italian pastry made from deep-fried dough balls which are coated in confectioners’ sugar. These are such a crowd-pleaser. Everyone gets to enjoy small bites of goodness dipped in their favorite toppings and sauces.

Makes 36 Zeppoles

Zeppoles:

1 store-bought or homemade pizza dough

Confectioners’ sugar

Oil for frying, not olive oil

Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge Sauce:

1 and 1/4 cups chocolate chips

1/2 cup peanut butter

1/2 stick butter

Directions for Zeppoles:

1. Use as much dough as needed for your party.

2. Form small balls the size of a tablespoon and place on a parchment-paper-lined pan.

3. Cover lightly with plastic wrap for 30 minutes until risen.

4. Heat 2” of oil in a pan and fry the Zeppole on all sides until golden.

5. Remove from oil with slotted spoon onto a paper-towel-lined dish and then quickly transfer to a bowl filled with confectioners’ sugar.

6. Roll the dough balls in the sugar and place on a tray to serve.

7. Serve with all of your favorite sauces such as chocolate, caramel, hazelnut, and lotus or try this easy rich chocolate peanut butter fudge sauce:

Directions for Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge Sauce:

1. Place ingredients in a glass bowl and microwave for about a minute, stirring every 20 seconds, until sauce is formed.

2. Alternatively, melt ingredients together in a small pot on a low flame.

3. Bring sauce just to the boiling point, stirring to combine, but don’t overheat.

4. Serve warm as a dipping sauce for zeppole.

5. When making this in advance, transfer fudge to a container and store in the refrigerator. Rewarm in the microwave and serve. Makes 2 cups.
