Hi, we’re Shoshi and Tzippy Newman, two sisters under the age of 12 who love to bake for Shabbat! Join us as we bake up easy, kid-friendly treats for Shabbat!

This week we are back with the cutest funnest hamantaschen for Purim right in time for Rosh Chodesh Adar!

Ok so we love these for a few reasons. First of all, they happen to be delicious! Ok. Thats the most important one. But second, because you can literally make these with any flavors and add-ins that you like. Third, because even though these look super fancy, they are actually even easier to make than regular folded hamantaschen. We actually really wanted to test it out with folding the edges, but we loved how they looked when they came out of the oven, so we decided to leave it the way they were. If you do try this with folded edges, please please let us know!!!! (And if you try it the way we did it, let us know about that too!)

Happy baking and Happy Adar!!!

Triple The Fun Hamantaschen

For the Hamantaschen:

3/4 cup margarine, softened

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

2 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Toppings: we used colorful sprinkles, toasted coconut, and shaved chocolate, you can use anything you’d like!

For the Ganache:

6 ounces best quality semisweet or bittersweet chocolate (not unsweetened)

2 tablespoons butter or margarine

1/2 cup heavy cream or nondairy creamer

Equipment:

Mixing bowl

Hand mixer/beater

Spatula

Baking sheet

Parchment paper

Directions:

1. Wash your hands, clear your counters, and preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (note! Not your regular 350 degrees Fahrenheit!)

2. Combine margarine and sugar in a large bowl with a hand mixer. Beat in egg and vanilla until combined. Add flour and baking powder and mix until combined.

3. Divide the dough into three even parts. Add your favorite toppings to each. Mold them into a long log shape. Put them onto a parchment paper. Then attach the three logs together and use parchment paper to mold them into a large triangle. Using a very sharp knife, cut thin slices (about 1/4 inch thick) and carefully lay them out on your parchment-lined baking sheet.

4. Place in the oven and bake for about 12-15 minutes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit, or until it reaches the softness/crispiness you like best.

5. (Optional) Make your ganache.

Get a double boiler ready. This means you take a medium sized pot, and fill it with about 2 inches of water. Then put a metal or glass bowl on top of the pot, and put the Ganache ingredients into the bowl.

6. Allow the chocolate to melt, and then mix well. Using a spoon, put a small circle of the ganache in the center of each cooled hamantaschen. It will firm up as it sits.

7. Enjoy!!!

You’ll want to divide the dough into three parts and mix in your toppings. Roll each into a log and place them on parchment paper. Press them together into a triangle shape, then slice into 1/4 inch pieces and place on a baking sheet- does that make more sense? If you’d like a visual on how to do it, i’d suggest searching ‘how to make triangle cookies’ on youtube and you’ll find a tutorial.
