If you’re looking for a new and hilarious Chanukah party idea, this one is truly the perfect choice. Meet the Chocolate-Covered Mystery Game. An easy, low-prep activity that turns an ordinary Chanukah night into non-stop laughter.

Okay so here's the deal. There are so many ways you can have fun with this chocolate mystery board (I thought of 5 possible game ideas!). The truth is I couldn't just choose one to share with you. I also wanted it to be structured, unpredictable and interactive. So here are TWO ways to play with this chocolate-covered mystery food board.

The concept of both ways to play is simple:
Choose a mix of foods. Sweet, salty, crunchy, soft, familiar etc. Once everything is dipped in chocolate, you have the bulk of what you need for these two fun Chanukah games:

Chocolate Roulette– a chance-based game full of surprises

Guess That Bite– a group challenge that’s all about reactions, clues, and teamwork

Game #1- Chocolate Roulette

In this version, players don’t guess the food, they simply follow the instruction they draw. Every round is a surprise.

How to Set It Up

1-Insert numbered toothpick flags into each chocolate-covered food, using the same number for all identical food types. Prepare enough pieces of each number based on how many players you have.

2-Write simple Roulette Cards and place them in a bowl.

Roulette Card Examples:

-Eat one bite of #4

-Pick someone to eat #7

-Trade chocolates with the person on your left

-Eat any odd number

-Skip

-Eat the whole piece

-Wild card (eat any one of your choice)

How to Play

1-Everyone sits in a circle.

2-A player draws a card and follows the instruction.

3-Continue around the circle until all chocolates have been eaten.

Game #2- Guess That Bite

How to Set It Up

Divide everyone into teams and assign roles:

Taster (takes the bite, no talking!)

Clue-Giver (may say only three descriptive words)

Guess-Writer (submits the team’s final answer of what food was eaten)

How to Play

1-Each team’s Taster takes a bite of the same numbered food. (Reactions are allowed — commentary is not!)

2-The Clue-Giver gives exactly three words total to describe the bite.

3-The Guess-Writer writes a guess of what the food is.

4-Continue through all the chocolate-covered items.

5-Reveal the answers and tally the points.

Now you might be wondering what foods should you choose for these mystery games. We chose the following, but feel free to use other food too!

-Olives

-Pretzels

-Beets

-Chestnuts

-Vegetable chips

-Sandwich cookies

-Chocolate gelt

-Wafer cookies

-Fruit jerky

-Taffies

-Green beans

-Croutons

-Tacaroos

I love the idea of choosing multiple foods that might look like something it's not. For example, a jalapeño halved lengthwise could look like a piece of dried mango. A cherry tomato could look like a grape. Know your audience (especially keeping everything safe to eat for young kids), but have fun and try to be a bit tricky.

Both of these options are simple to set up, fun to play, and will definitely be memorable!

The clue giver will know in advance what each covered item is made of, and that’s how they can give the taster 3 clues.
