Apple Crumble/Kugel

Ingredients

Crumb Mixture

  • 1 package (1 tablespoon) vanilla sugar

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Filling

  • 10 small apples, peeled and sliced

  • cinnamon (to sprinkle)

  • 1/2 cup sugar

Directions

1.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).

In a large bowl, mix together all the crumb ingredients.

3.

Press half of the crumb mixture into the bottom of a 9×13-inch pan.

4.

Mix half of the sliced apples with cinnamon and sugar. Spread this mixture over the crumb layer in the pan.

5.

Lightly sprinkle a bit more crumb mixture over the apples.

6.

Mix the remaining apples with the apricot jam. Layer this over the pan.

7.

Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture on top.

8.

Bake for one hour or until golden brown.

Notes:

Keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. For longer storage, refrigerate for up to 5 days, or freeze in a sealed container for up to 2 months; thaw at room temperature before serving. Reheat individual portions briefly in a 300-degree-Fahrenheit (150-degree-Celsius) oven for 5–10 minutes.
