This may not seem like much of a recipe, but I couldn’t leave hot dogs off the table so I put a unique spin on them with the crosshatch pattern. A hot dog is really a blank slate, so throw in some relish, mustard, or your other favorite fixings to create exactly what makes you happy. Broiling hot dogs in the oven literally makes them taste grilled!
Preheat oven to the broil setting. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and set aside.
Working with one hot dog at a time, gently run your knife about 1/8 inch deep, making diagonal slits down the length of the hot dog. Repeat, now making diagonal slits in the opposite direction, then flip the hot dog over and create the crosshatch pattern on the bottom.
Brush barbecue sauce on all sides of the hot dog, making sure it seeps into the knife cuts. Place on the prepared baking sheet.
Broil on high for five minutes per side.
