My daughter’s face the first time she tasted these rolls and discovered the “surprise” inside was priceless! I love making a big batch of these, freezing them, and then taking out as needed. Yield: 2 9-inch round pans (approximately 16 rolls)
1/4 cup warm water
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons Gefen Yeast
1/3 cup oil, such as Gefen Canola Oil
1 teaspoon salt, plus more for sprinkling
1 egg
3 and 1/2 cups Glicks Flour
1 (8-ounce) block cheese, cut into 1/2-inch cubes (I used Cajun-flavored cheese, but any will work)
egg, beaten, for brushing
parsley, for garnish
In a bowl, mix together first six ingredients. Allow to sit for one to two minutes, then add flour. Mix with a wooden spoon, then knead with your hands until all the ingredients are incorporated. Cover and let rise for about 30 minutes.
Divide the dough into approximately 16 balls. Flatten each ball and place a piece of cheese in the middle. Close up and place seam-side down in a round pan.
Brush with egg, salt, and parsley.
Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes.
