Chocolate-Cheese Squares

These chocolate-cheese squares are the perfect hybrid for someone who loves both chocolate and cheesecake! Combining these two flavors into one is sure to be a crowd-pleaser, and is an excellent addition to a Shavuot kiddush or a dairy brunch. Minimal effort with delicious results!

Directions

For the Batter

1. In a large mixer bowl, cream butter and sugar.
2. Gradually add eggs, one at a time.
3. Add vanilla and chocolate.
4. Sift in flour, baking powder and salt.
5. Add walnuts and mix slowly until smooth.
6. Pour half of batter into a 10- by 16-inch baking pan. Reserve remaining batter.

For the Cheese Filling

1. Blend or process all filling ingredients until smooth. Pour over cake batter.
2. Scoop remaining cake batter over cheese. Smooth batter with wet spatula.
3. Bake for an hour at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut into two-inch squares or one- and- a- half-inch bars.

Variations:

Filling can be swirled with cake batter for marble effect.
