When out with my husband one evening, we stumbled upon a Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Egg Roll on the dessert menu. I had been looking for a new twist on fried dessert for Chanukah, so we decided to try it. That egg roll was so delicious, and so decadent, I told my husband that I absolutely had to recreate it in my own kitchen for the holiday.
The basic recipe can actually be made with completely store-bought ingredients, but I think my cookie dough made them that much better, as I was able to adjust the sugar so that the flavors are rich without being way too sweet.
Though not quite as decadent in parve, I’ve included both options here, as either way, I think you’ll agree that this tastes like a restaurant worthy dish!
1 package square egg roll wrappers
1 recipe chocolate chip cookie dough (see mine below)
1 recipe chocolate cookie dough (optional but highly recommended, see mine below)
Oil for frying
1 C margarine or butter
3/4 C brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
3 C flour
1 C chocolate chips
1 C margarine or butter
1/2 C sugar
1 egg
1/3 C cocoa
2 C flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
Confectioner’s sugar
Chocolate sauce
Caramel sauce
Whipped cream
Vanilla Ice cream
Cream together margarine and sugar.
Add eggs and vanilla, and mix well.
Add the rest of the ingredients and mix to combine.
Cream the margarine/butter and sugar together.
Add the egg and cocoa, and mix well.
Add the rest of the ingredients, and mix to combine.
Heat oil in a wide, deep, heavy-bottomed pan.
Place two cookie scoops worth of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough in the center of each egg roll wrapper, and form into a log shape.
Place about 1 heaping Tablespoon of Chocolate Dough on top, if using.
Wet the corners of your egg roll wrapper, and roll up, egg roll style.
Fry until golden, about 1 minute per side. Remove to a paper towel lined plate and let cool for a minute or two.
Serve warm, dusted with confectioner’s sugar, drizzled with your favorite chocolate and caramel sauce, and with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream on the side.
