Diets This multi-layer cake is a super pretty dessert that looks extremely elegant when cut into squares. The frosting is smooth and easy to spread, and the cake cuts very easily into neat pieces. This freezes very well.
1/2 package ready puff pastry, such as Gefen Puff Pastry
9 eggs, separated
1 cup sugar
juice of 1/2 lemon
1/4 cup oil
1/2 pound ground walnuts
3-4 tablespoons Gefen Bread Crumbs
3 egg yolks
12 ounces Gefen Confectioners’ Sugar
1/2 pound margarine
1 tablespoon Gefen Vanilla Sugar
juice of 1 lemon
Roll out dough on floured board and transfer to a 16×10 inch baking pan.
Beat egg whites until stiff, gradually adding sugar.
Beat yolks, lemon and oil.
Fold beaten whites into yolk mixture and gently add nuts and bread crumbs.
Pour batter over dough. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes.
Cream egg yolks, confectioners sugar and margarine. Add remaining ingredients and beat. Spread onto cake.
Cut into squares. Garnish with walnut halves in center of each square.
