This recipe happened by accident with a big-time prayer – “Please let it come out come out good.” Good thing the prayer worked. I can’t say this recipe works without the extra prayer. The recipe happened because of my trying to make gevina levana work the same as farmer’s cheese….lesson learned-it doesn’t work. I wanted to make for a Shavuos meal french toast cigars with a cheese filling in the inside and then roll each cigar in sugar and cinnamon. Sounds yum-right? Problem was that my gevina levana mixture wouldn’t thicken no matter what I did. However, no complaints because this recipe is super delicious, and our guests and family enjoyed it the first time it was served (I saw them taking doubles:) and it even made it to the request list of leftovers-it’s THAT good:)
One loaf of bread, french toasted (make it for supper and continue frying)
3 eggs
750 gm white Israeli cheese
2 Tbs flour
2 tsp vanilla sugar
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup confectionery sugar
2 Tbs corn starch
Crumble up the French toast into big pieces. Let them fill up a deep 8×8 pan.
Pour the cheese mixture on top and let it bake until the kugel is set and golden on top.
