Chocolate bark with a twist. The salt in the recipe gives the sweet bark a kick and sets it apart. It can be dressed up to send in for a Simcha or down, just to snack on at home. This recipe never lasts more than a day or two in my house.
1 and 1/4 packets of Graham crackers
1.5 sticks of margarine
1/2 cup brown sugar
Salt to sprinkle (preferably freshly ground salt enough to cover by sprinkling) just under a tsp if using regular salt.
1.5 cups good quality chocolate chips
Toppings – I use cranberries and walnuts since they are complimentary and give a nice colour.
Boil margarine and brown sugar on a low flame until the sugar has dissolved.
Meanwhile, arrange the graham crackers on an oven tray covered in baking paper.
Pour margarine mixture over the crackers. Sprinkle salt.
Bake for exactly 10 minutes.
Immediately pour the chocolate chips over the graham crackers. Put back in the oven for 1.5 minutes until the chocolate starts to melt. Take it out and spread the chocolate with a spatula, working quickly.
Add toppings and refrigerate.
