1. Beat egg whites until stiff, add sugar, vanilla sugar and salt.
2. Add cocoa, nuts (reserving 1/2 cup of nuts for the top), flour, shortening and egg yolks.
3. Spread onto cookie sheet and sprinkle with 1/2 cup nuts mixed with a little sugar.
4. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes. Cool.
5. Cut into half moon shapes by cutting with a drinking glass.
