These half moons are kind of like brownies, with added nuts, and a crunchy sweet topping. These are jam-packed with flavor and texture and are extremely moist. Feel free to cut them into any shape you want, and enjoy the "scraps"!

Prepare the Half Moons
Beat egg whites until stiff, add sugar, vanilla sugar and salt.
Add cocoa, nuts (reserving 1/2 cup of nuts for the top), flour, shortening and egg yolks.
Spread onto cookie sheet and sprinkle with 1/2 cup nuts mixed with a little sugar.
Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes. Cool.
Cut into half moon shapes by cutting with a drinking glass.
