Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 3 and 1/2 cups of flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 and 1/2 cups margarine or butter

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 2 tablespoons of milk or soy milk

  • 1 egg

  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • blue, white, red and black cookie frosting

  • chocolate gelt

  • human shaped, Jewish star or round cookie cutter

Directions

Prepare the Maccabee Cookies

1.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

In bowl fit for your mixer, beat margarine and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg, milk, vanilla and almond extract. Mix until well combined.

3.

In a separate bowl combine flour and baking powder. Gradually add flour mixture to butter mixture until combined.

4.

Chill for 30 minutes.

5.

Now for the fun part… Roll out your dough. Cut out your men and shields using your cookie cutter.

6.

Bake for 10–12 minutes. Cool completely before decorating.
