This recipe has been in my family for many years. My grandmother created this delicious recipe. This recipe traveled from Berkeley California to Vancouver, Canada to Monsey, New York feeding many people who were not yet frum to individuals on their journey to frumkeit and people who were newly frum. We hope you enjoy it. May it continue to bring joy to all.
1 large onion
1 garlic cube
28 ounce can whole or crushed tomatoes
4 cups water
2 teaspoons grated lemon rind (optional)
2 teaspoons chopped parsley
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon sugar
1 crushed bay leaf (or keep whole and remove before serving)
1/2 oregano
3 small cans tomato paste
1 and 1/2 ground beef
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon oregano
2 teaspoons chopped parsley
1/4 cup bread crumbs
Sauté onions and garlic. Add rest of the ingredients. Cook 45 minutes.
Form meatballs and add to sauce and cook additional 40 minutes. Place over cooked spaghetti.
