A long way back when I was in high school I wanted to try my hand at cooking. Since I loved meatballs and spaghetti, what a great way to start. No recipe in hand, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work. That night at supper, everyone had doubles and it became my job to make meatballs once a month for supper. The next few times I tweaked the recipe till I got it perfect. Throughout the next 20+ years I’ve been asked for my famous meatball recipe by family, friends, neighbors, and co workers. When my DIL saw your contest, she immediately called me to enter my meatballs.
1 lbs chop meat
1 egg
1/3 cup flavored bread crumbs
3 Tbs water
1 spanish onion
4 garlic cubes
28 oz crushed tomatoes
15 oz tomato sauce
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup honey
1 tsp oregano
Salt and pepper to taste
1 package cooked spaghetti
Mix all ingredients and form into balls.
Saute onion till translucent add garlic cubes, saute 2 to 3 more minutes. Add rest of the ingredients and bring to a boil. Lower flame to medium/small add meatballs, simmer 1 hour, mixing every 15 minutes making sure nothing sticks to bottom of pot.
Serve over cooked spaghetti and enjoy.
