Ingredients

Mexican Hot Chocolate

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1/2 cup Gefen Cocoa Powder

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • pinch of salt

  • pinch of chili powder (optional)

  • 4 cups whole milk

  • 2 egg yolks (optional)

  • Haddar Churros and Mini Churros for dipping, prepared according to package directions

Directions

Prepare the Mexican Hot Chocolate

1.

In a small pot, combine all the dry ingredients then add milk and whisk frequently over a medium flame until heated through.

2.

If you prefer a thicker hot chocolate like I do, break the yolks in a small cup or bowl. Add about 1/4 cup of the hot chocolate to the yolks and mix to temper them so they don’t scramble when added to the pot. Stir into the hot chocolate in the pot and allow to simmer until thickened.

3.

Serve immediately with warm churros or enjoy on its own.

Wow. INSANE.
I would buy this in a restaurant – but even better, can make it on my own at home!
Don’t skip the egg yolks, they add a creamy and decadent texture.
