Since I became food editor I knew the time would come when I would eventually share this recipe, as it is by far the most popular recipe I ever created. Come to think of it, I think it’s actually the first recipe I ever created! No more introduction necessary. Try it, it’s delicious!

Watch how its made here.

Ingredients (11)

Main ingredients

Start Cooking

Prepare Pasta

  1. Sauté onion in butter or oil until nicely golden.

  2. Add mushrooms and tomatoes and sauté until they become limp, another few minutes.

  3. Add spices, wine, and heavy cream and allow to simmer for five to ten minutes.

  4. Meanwhile, cook the pasta according to package directions.

  5. Toss the pasta with the sauce and serve.

Note:

This dish is best hot, but works very nicely served room temperature, too.

Variation:

Olive oil can be used instead of butter.

    Beware of soup mix

Just wanted to comment on this recipe. I noticed that one of the ingredients are chicken soup mix and this pasta is dairy. I am surprised that there is no note warning people to make sure to use parve soup mix.

FYI soup mix is parve- even the chicken flavored one.

Hi Miriam, I am actually holding in my hand right now a container of Osem Chicken soup mix (I live in Israel) and there is a big circle on the side with the word " בשרי" ,I guess you can't say all soup mix is parve.

Thanks Peri for your comment. It says in the ingredients to use pareve chicken soup mix to distinguish it from a meat one.

Osem, as do other companies have two types of soup mix. The meaty chicken soup say "זך" and is clearly labled "בשרי". The Pareve type states that it is" בטעם" chicken and is clearly labled Pareve. This is also true of beef flavored, or truely meaty soup mix. Esther Leah

Peri, and Miriam, I don't think they sell meaty chicken soup mix in the states, but I really appreciate your comment. Enjoy the recipe!
