I’m always trying to find new ways to serve string beans, and this one is a new favorite. Side note, I’ve been using my kitchen shears to cut off the stubby end of the string beans (I do a few at a time), and I’m loving how quick it is!
2 tablespoons oil
1 pound (1/2 kilogram) fresh string beans
1 onion, sautéed, or 1 cube Gefen Frozen Fried Onions
1/4 cup Baron Herzog Chenin Blanc, or other white wine
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 cube Gefen Frozen Garlic
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/2 tablespoon sriracha
1/2 cup toasted almonds
Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry string beans till slightly brown in some places. Do not overcook. Remove from pan.
Deglaze pan with wine, then add the rest of the ingredients except for the almonds.
Allow to simmer for approximately three to five minutes. Mix with the string beans. Add the almonds immediately before serving.
