Diets Fall flavors come alive in this easy apple dish!
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
1/2 stick margarine
1/4 teaspoon Gefen Ground Cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 and 1/4 cups Glicks Flour
2 teaspoons Haddar Baking Powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 and 1/2 sticks margarine
2/3 cup water
3 medium-sized Granny Smith or Golden Delicious apples, shredded
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon Gefen Cinnamon
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
In a large saucepan, combine sauce ingredients and boil for five minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Using a pastry blender, cut in the margarine until you have pea-sized pieces. Make a well in the center, add water, and stir until just moistened. Knead dough gently until smooth.
On a lightly floured surface, roll dough lengthwise into a 12×18-inch rectangle.
Combine the shredded apples, sugar and cinnamon.
Spread entire mixture evenly over dough, leaving a one-inch empty border at the top. Starting at the bottom, roll dough up, jelly-roll style so you have a 12-inch roll. Pinch to seal seam.
Cut dough into 12 one-inch-thick slices. Place the slices, cut side down, in a 9×13-inch oven-to-tableware dish.
Pour half the sauce over slices. Bake for 30 minutes. Pour over additional sauce and bake another 30 minutes or until golden. Cool slightly and serve warm.
