Salty, sweet, and pastrami are a winning combination when it comes to Purim. These bite-size umami bombs are perfect for passing around and are crowd pleasing for all ages. Just plate them and let the flavors speak for themselves.
Yields 16-18 roll-ups
1–1 and 1/2 pound (450–680 grams) ground beef
1/4 cup diced scallions (green part only)
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon Gefen Sesame Oil
1 tablespoon honey
3 cubes Gefen Frozen Garlic
1 cube Gefen Frozen Ginger
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 and 1/2 6-ounce (170-gram) packages pastrami
spicy mayo, for serving
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon Gefen Sesame Oil
1 tablespoon Gefen Sesame Seeds
1 cube Gefen Frozen Garlic
dash salt
dash pepper
Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).
Place ground beef in a bowl. Add scallions, soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, garlic, ginger, salt, and pepper. Mix until evenly combined. Scoop up the beef, two tablespoons at a time, and form mini kebabs.
Cut each slice of pastrami in half lengthwise. Wrap a piece of pastrami around each kebab. Bake for 10 minutes.
Place all ingredients in a pot. Bring the mixture to a boil. Allow sauce to simmer for five to 10 minutes, until it reduces and thickens.
Pour sesame sauce over each pastrami roll-up.
Raise the oven temperature to 425 degrees Fahrenheit (220 degrees Celsius) and bake for another five minutes.
Serve with spicy mayo on the side and enjoy!
