This Yerushalmi Kugel tastes almost like cake! Try it once, and it will surely become your family’s Shabbos favorite!
2 10-ounce bags kugel noodles, such as Gefen Fine Egg Noodles
1 and 1/4 cups plus 1/2 cup sugar, divided
2 tablespoons plus 1 and 1/2 cups oil, divided
6 and 1/2 cups water
8 eggs
1 tablespoon Gefen Vanilla Sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup Haddar Brown Sugar
1 and 1/4 teaspoons black pepper
1 and 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 and 1/4 teaspoons cinnamon
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
In a pot over a medium-high flame, melt one and one-fourth cups sugar. Add two tablespoons oil, stirring constantly until the mixture is deeply caramelized. Add the water. Once it bubbles, add the noodles and cook till almost no liquid is left.
In a separate bowl, combine the eggs with the rest of the ingredients, including remaining oil and sugar, and mix until well combined.
Add the egg mixture to the noodles and mix by hand.
Grease your prepared pan (see notes). Pour the whole mixture into the prepared pan.
Bake for one hour and 25 minutes or until the center is set.
