Diets This one-pot sweet and savory chicken is one of our favorite dishes. Once you try it, it’s going to be yours too. It’s sweet, savory, and a delicious dish to serve at your Pesach table.
1 package of chicken without the backbone
2 medium onions
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup soy sauce or Heaven & Earth Coconut Aminos
2 tablespoons Gefen Lemon Juice
2 teaspoons crushed garlic or 2 cubes Gefen Frozen Garlic
mushrooms (optional)
Start by searing the chicken on both sides until beautifully golden.
Remove the chicken and add your onions to the same pot, letting them soak up all the flavors from the chicken. Sauté until soft and golden brown.
Season with salt, pepper, turmeric, garlic and paprika, stirring to coat the onions evenly. Add in the soy sauce, brown sugar, lemon juice, water, and crushed garlic, mixing everything together.
Return the chicken to the pot, cover, and cook on low for about one and 1/2 hours, until tender and full of flavor.
Baste the chicken every so often while it cooks, spooning the sauce over the chicken so it stays juicy and absorbs all the delicious flavors. Trust me, this sauce alone is worth saving this recipe.
Serve this chicken over mashed potatoes, with a side of roasted veggies, and you’ve got a simple, satisfying meal that’s perfect for your Seder night.

Looks good. How much longer do i need to cook if I use chicken w the backbone?
I would say between 45 min – 1 hour in total instead of 30 min.
