This dish is my go-to recipe for feeding hungry kids after school. It comes together in less than 25 minutes, and I can never make enough!!! I used plant-based sausages from Tirat Zvi, and they were so delicious! I could barely taste the difference between these and my usual beef hot dogs. These sausages can be found in the freezer section at your local kosher market.
1 package Tirat Zvi Plant Based Sausages (400 grams)
2 large chopped onions
4 tablespoons oil
1 tablespoon paprika
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
500 grams ptitim (Israeli couscous)
4 cups parve chicken stock or 4 cups water with 4 tablespoons parve consommé
Remove sausages from the package and wash. Cut into circles about half an inch thick.
Heat oil in a large pan. Sauté onions for about five minutes, then add seasonings and sausage circles, mixing well. Brown together for three minutes and add the package of ptitim. Mix and toast the ptitim for about three minutes.
Pour in the chicken stock and cook for about five minutes. Cover and turn off the stove. Leave it alone for about 10 minutes to soften and cook the ptitim.
Remove cover and fluff ptitim. Enjoy hot with some ketchup on the side.
