Now this one looks so cute and taste like meat knishes dipped in chummus – what is better than that!? And best of all, they are hamentashin!!!! Have a wonderful, less crazy Purim !!!!!
1 pack of puff pastry
ready-made ground beef (the recipe I used was from the Good Food cookbook, but I added some tomatoes in there)
1 tub of chummus (store-bought or homemade)
1 egg, for egg wash
optional sesame seeds
1/4 cup tahini paste
2/3 cup water
3 tablespoons lemon juice or juice of 1 lemon
1 and 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons schug (red or green)
Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Sprinkle flour over countertop. Lay the puff pastry on top. Roll out puff pastry until the puff pastry is 1/8 inch thick. Then using a large cookie cutter or glass, cut out circles in the pastry. Remove remaining scraps of the puff pastry from the circles.
One by one, take two to three spoonfuls of chummus and spread out in the middle of the circle, not to the edge but just in the middle. Next add two to three spoonfuls of ground beef right on top of the chummus. Then take the ends of the circle and fold and pinch tightly to make a triangle.
Put on a parchment lined baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining empty circles. Once all are filled, shaped, and placed on the parchment lined baking sheet, brush with egg wash and, if you want, sprinkle sesame seeds over it. Bake for 15 – 20 minutes or until golden brown.
In a large container, put the water and techina. Cover and shake vigorously until the mixture looks whiteish, thick & creamy. Then remove the cover, and add the lemon, garlic powder, and schug. Cover again and shake until combined.
Once the hamentashin are out & have cooled off, drizzle over or dip them into the Techina and watch them get devoured. Enjoy a fralichen Purim!!!
