Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Cake

This tasty chocolate chip cake is not only made with whole wheat flour but is low in sugar and fat too.

Prepare the Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F. Grease an eight- by eight-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda and salt.

  3. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to combine sugars, applesauce, margarine, egg, egg yolk and vanilla. Beat until creamy.

  4. Add the flour mixture to the large bowl, and beat to combine. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts (if using).

  5. Spread mixture in pan and bake for about 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. Drizzle melted chocolate over the top of the cake.
