You’re probably wondering, “Who is Bowery, and why is it my new best friend?”

Before we answer that, let us paint a picture for you.

You’re in the kitchen, ready to prep a healthy veggie-packed weeknight or Shabbat meal. You have fresh veggies ready to go, an amazing dressing waiting for you in a jar, and are now up to the worst part of making a salad, wrap, or anything else beautiful and green. Or as we call it, the “DLC” aka, dreaded lettuce check.

But then you remember that you have a package of Bowery Mehadrin lettuce in the fridge, which means…

No bug checking (as certified by the Tartikov hechsher)

No washing

Zero pesticides

A giant sigh of relief takes over you, and before you know it, a healthy, vibrant green meal, that ordinarily would have taken at least 30 minutes longer, is ready to serve!

Before we can even say, “That’s why Bowery is your new best friend,” you’re already introducing them to the rest of the neighborhood!

So, to answer your next question, who is Bowery?

Bowery is a modern farming company reimagining what a healthy and flavorful future looks like.

They build smart indoor vertical farms, from floor to ceiling (how amazing is that?!), and grow their produce under lights that mimic the spectrum of the sun, which means they use fewer resources, including a fraction of the water used in traditional farming. Bowery’s proprietary operating system, gives their crops exactly what they need, when they need it.

Their farms are close to the cities, which creates optimal conditions to cultivate fresh, traceable protected produce that’s available year round. They harvest at peak freshness and deliver to stores within a few days of harvest – so their produce maintains vibrant flavor and stays fresher longer. (Soggy lettuce is officially a thing of the past!)

In a nutshell? Bowery greens are grown smarter for crisp texture and overall better flavor.

All of Bowery’s produce is pesticide-free and requires no bug checking or washing!

For all of you who check your lettuce for bugs, wash them relentlessly, and go through all the steps it takes to thoroughly prep your greens, you KNOW what a game changer Bowery’s Mehadrin lettuce is.

There is nothing else on the Mehadrin market that compares to Bowery lettuce, and that is really REALLY exciting! Imagine all the possibilities for these amazing products! Instead of spending hours in the kitchen tirelessly checking and cleaning, you can now focus on creating beautiful and healthy recipes for your loved ones.

Bowery offers five varieties of Mehadrin lettuce to choose from: Baby Butter, Baby Romaine, Crispy Leaf, Mixed Greens, and Spring Mix.

Now there’s no excuse not to get creative in the kitchen!

Fresh cilantro
Crushed peanuts for serving, optional

Marinade Ingredients:

1/2 cup soy sauce
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
2 garlic cloves
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped
3 green onions, finely minced
1 tablespoon sweet chili sauce

Pickled Onion Ingredients:

1 large red onion, peeled and very thinly sliced
3/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon fine sea salt
1–2 tablespoons sweetener (such as maple syrup, honey, sugar, etc.)

Marinade Directions:

1. Whisk ingredients together in a bowl.

Pickled Onion Directions:

1. In a small saucepan, stir together the vinegar, water, salt, and your desired amount of sweetener. Cook over medium-high heat until the mixture reaches a simmer.

2. Place the thinly-sliced onions in a mason jar. Pour the hot vinegar mixture over the onions, screw on the lid, and shake the onions briefly until they are evenly coated with the vinegar mixture.

3. Let the onions marinate for 30 minutes. Serve immediately, or refrigerate the onions in a sealed container for up to 2 weeks.

Salad Directions:

1. Rinse steak in cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Marinate the steak in 3/4 of the marinade for one hour.

2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil on high heat until oil is smoking. Cook marinated steak for 2 minutes on each side. Remove from pan and allow to rest for 10 minutes.

3. Slice the steak very thinly. When ready to serve, build your lettuce cup by adding steak, veggies, herbs and 1/4 cup reserved marinade to lettuce and wrapping like a taco.
