Diets When I first decided to make apple chips, it was because I needed a good way to use up my apples. I also wanted a healthy snack for the kids, and I was really just curious about how they would compare to the store-bought brands. Well, not only were they so simple to make (it took about five minutes), they came out tasting much better than I could have imagined. Since that fateful day, we are avid apple chip makers, eaters and lovers.
6 tablespoons Gefen Confectioners’ Sugar, divided
2 Granny Smith apples
Preheat oven to 225 degrees Fahrenheit. Line two large baking sheets with Gefen Parchment Paper. Sift three tablespoons of confectioner’s sugar evenly onto the lined baking sheets (about one and a half tablespoons on each pan).
With a mandoline or other slicer, cut apples horizontally into paper-thin slices. Arrange apple slices in one layer on baking sheets and sprinkle evenly with the remaining three tablespoons of confectioner’s sugar.
Bake the slices in the upper and lower thirds of the oven for two hours and 15 minutes (or until slices are pale golden and starting to crisp), switching the positions of the baking sheets halfway through. Remove from oven and immediately peel apple chips off the parchment and place to cool on a rack.
Yields about 16 chips
