Diets I’m not much of a baker, so by the time I get to dessert I just want the easiest thing possible: something that doesn’t require any fancy machines, that I can throw into a bowl and call it a day. I love warm fruit at the end of a heavy meal, so this is my easiest go-to dessert!
4 whole green apples
1/4 cup non-dairy butter substitute, such as Earth Balance, melted
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon Gefen Cinnamon
1 pinch nutmeg
1 tablespoon Gefen Lemon Juice
3 tablespoons fresh apple juice
2/3 cup all purpose flour, such as Glicks
5 tablespoons Haddar Dark Brown Sugar
pinch of salt
3 and 1/2 tablespoons unsalted non-dairy butter substitute, cut into small cubes and chilled
1 and 1/2 cups candied pecans
vanilla ice cream (dairy or parve)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Place apples in a glass baking dish and pour melted butter over.
Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg, then drizzle with lemon and apple juice.
Cover and bake for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake for another 10-15 minutes or until apples are golden brown.
Mix flour, sugar and salt in a large mixing bowl.
Add butter and use your fingers to combine into a crumble texture. Add pecans and mix.
Spread on a baking sheet lined with Gefen Parchment Paper and bake for 15 to 20 minutes until dry and cooked through. Let cool.
Slice warm apples in half. Top with crumble and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
