Rich, hearty, and perfect with a glass of Baron Herzog Merlot.

1/2 to 3/4 head cabbage, sliced
1 and 1/2 cups Pereg Jasmine Rice
2 pounds ground beef (or as much as you like — go generous!)
tomato sauce (see below)
3 cartons Tuscanini Tomato Sauce (rinse cartons with a little water and add it in)
3/4 jar Tuscanini Crushed Tomatoes
3 squeezes Tuscanini Tomato Paste (from the tube)
2 tablespoons Gefen Hot Honey
1/2 cup Gefen Sugar
4 teaspoons Gefen granulated garlic
3 teaspoons Haddar Kosher Salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1/2 teaspoon Pereg Cumin
In a large bowl, whisk together all the sauce ingredients until smooth. Taste and adjust seasoning — it should be sweet, tangy, and a little spicy.
Assemble the Layers: In a deep oven-safe pan, spread a layer of sliced cabbage. Sprinkle on half the rice. Pour on a layer of sauce. Add the ground beef evenly across. Repeat the layers, finishing with cabbage on top. Pour the remaining sauce generously over everything.
Cover tightly with foil. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for one hour, then lower to 250 degrees Fahrenheit for five more hours. When you open that pan, it should smell like Simchas Torah!
Scoop out hearty portions, making sure every plate has cabbage, beef, rice, and sauce. Pour a glass of Baron Herzog Merlot and enjoy!

just checking that amounts of spices are correct – 4 Tablespoons garlic powder and 3 Tablespoons kosher salt?
Was soooo delicious! My whole family loved it! Was the perfect dish to serve after shul on simchas torah day!
