This is a beautiful trifle that can be presented in many different ways. It can be made as shown, in small mousse cups, or in a 9×13 pan and cut into squares. I also make it for Pesach with a Pesach brownie recipe as the base.

Ingredients

Cake

  • 1 Duncan Hines Devils Food cake mix

Cream

  • 2 8-oz Rich’s whips

Mousse Pudding

  • 4 pasteurized eggs

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 3/4 cup cocoa

  • 3/4 cup oil

  • 1 tsp vanilla

Topping

  • Parve chocolate bar to make shavings for the top of the trifle.

Directions

Prepare the Trifle

1.

Make the mixture for the Duncan Hines Devils Food cake mix according to the directions on the box. Pour into (2) 8 or 9 inch round pans. Bake and set aside to cool. Once cool, invert the trifle stand to cut out the circles that will be used for the trifle.

2.

Beat the 2 Rich’s whips until stiff peaks form. Set aside.

3.

Mix all ingredients for the Mousse Pudding. Fold in half of the Rich’s whip mixture into the Mousse Pudding.

To Assemble

1.

Layer: 1 chocolate round cake, half the mousse mixture, half of the remaining Rich’s whip.

2.

2nd chocolate round cake, the rest of the mousse mixture, and the remaining Rich’s whip.

3.

Decorate with chocolate shavings on top
