My Great-Grandmother’s Kumutz Bread

Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 1 stick margarine

  • 1 and 1/2 cups sugar

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

  • 4 eggs

  • 2 cups flour, sifted

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 3 cups chopped walnuts or pecans

  • cinnamon sugar, for sprinkling

Directions

Prepare the Bread

1.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease two loaf pans and set aside.

In a large bowl, beat together margarine and sugar. Add vanilla and mix. Add eggs one at a time and beat in between each addition. Add sifted flour, baking powder, and salt. Beat until combined.

Add walnuts and mix with a large spoon. Pour batter into loaf pans. Bake for 35-40 minutes.

Let the cakes cool, then place in freezer.

5.

When frozen, cut into thin slices. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and bake at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes.
