When I was asked to create diet desserts for this issue of Whisk, I thought that was an oxymoron. But I had a few tricks up my sleeve….

Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 1 (15-ounce) can 100% pure pumpkin

  • Devil’s food chocolate cake mix

  • 2 tablespoons water

Directions

Make the Brownies

1.

Combine pumpkin, cake mix, and water.

Pour into a greased 9- x 13-inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes.

substitution question Thank you for this simple recipe for 2 favorites… pumpkin and chocolate!
Can I substitute brownie mix for the cake mix? If so, would you recommend any ‘tweaks’?

Brownie mix might yield a denser recipe, but I don’t think it would be bad. I would try it.
