Just a few basic ingredients yield a savory pastry appetizer. Pair with a mushroom sauce like this one (prepare it without the chicken) and watch every plate get licked clean.
Roll out dough to one- quarter-inch thickness. Cut into three- and- a- half-inch squares.
Combine all ingredients for filling, mashing very finely.
Place one heaping tablespoon of filling in center of each square. Fold dough over filling. Place seam-side down onto lined cookie sheet.
Brush with egg, sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 40 minutes or until delicately golden.
Variations:
Knishes can be prepared in large loaf. With sharp knife, mark indentations every two inches. Brush with egg and bake at 375 degees for one hour.
