A wonderful sauce recipe whether you are going to be making it for Mishloach Manos or not. Yields 6 1/2-liter jars.
I included the following poem with my Mishloach Manos:
A Freilechen Purim
From the Kafra bunch
Now sit and relax
We’ve brought you some lunch
A few quick instructions
For you to employ
Just three easy steps
And this dish you’ll enjoy
First cook up the pasta
And strain when it’s done
Then just add the sauce
And mix till its warm
Place into bowls
And sprinkle with cheese
Who knew that this dish
Is sure to please.
1/2 cup butter
5 cloves garlic
1/2 cup flour
3 and 1/2 cups milk
2 (28-ounce) cans crushed tomatoes, with juices
6 tablespoons Gefen Tomato Paste
Haddar Kosher Salt, to taste
freshly ground Gefen Black Pepper, to taste
4 green onions, chopped (approximately)
1 tablespoon dried basil
In a very large pot, melt butter, add garlic and sauté until translucent. Stir in flour and mix.
Whisk in milk and bring to a boil for three minutes, stir constantly until smooth.
Add in tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, salt and pepper. Stir until smooth and cook for five minutes. Add basil, chopped green onions and remove from flame. Cool before spooning into jar.
