It was during the 9 days when my neighbor told me she will be making Fish Balls. Yuck, I responded. Then I decided I will give it a shot. I took the basic ingredients but added more veggies and spices and added my own twist to the whole recipe. Now my neighbors family and friends only use my version. It is delicious and a must to try.
1 22 ounce Gefilta fish, defrosted for 20 minutes
1 onion, diced
1 squash, sliced in circles
1 package frozen peas n carrots
4 cloves garlic, crushed
2 cans tomato sauce
1/2 cup sugar
salt, to taste
pepper, to taste
1 large half green pepper
Saute onions until translucent. Add garlic, then squash, then frozen veggies.
Saute a few minutes. Add tomato sauce. Refill each can halfway with water and add to pot. Add sugar and spices. Bring to a boil.
Form fish into balls. Drop into boiling sauce. Add green pepper on top. Lower heat and simmer for one hour and 15 minutes partially covered.
